01 Parents

First there is your own grief because of the diagnosis your child was given. Answers provide clarity, but  new uncertainty rises on the 'road less traveled'. You can feel so alone at times!

Embedding a new way of communicating takes effort. It's like learning a whole new language. As a parent of a child with Special Needs, you could use some help. You just want to enjoy life and get a grip on things again.

I would like to walk beside you and support you, so that you will soon have a plan with feasible steps to give Augmentatitve and Alternative Communication its place in your life.

02 Children

Not (yet) being able to speak is not the same as having no thoughts. Non-verbal (or nearly non-verbal) children need an alternative, because they need to access language and communication!

The right tools can give them acces to their 'voice'.  They let themselves be heard (examples: yes/no cards, communication books or a Eye Gaze computers). The most appropriate system must be sellected for each child.

As an SLP / AAC-Specialist, I will help you. I will give you an overview of the possibilities and together we will assess which systems may be appropriate. You will choose the system that suits your child and your family.

03 Friends

No one is happy with isolation. Unfortunately, many families with a Special Needs child lose important friends. These friends want to be there for you, but they don't know how.

The raw emotions and the confrontation with the fragility of life raise many questions. But as a parent you don't have the answers yet and you don't have the energy to explain it again.

Will you allow me to do something for you in this regard? I'm bringing your friends and family together for three valuable encounters.Through online (or onsite) gathersings we create space for re-connection and training. When they get answers to some of the questions that have bothered them, they know how they can support you,

I hope that eventually everyone will be able to participate and communication is very important for that. Particularly people who do not or hardly speak at the moment are limited in their participation. After all, if we don't speak each other's language, we will remain strangers to each other. By assisting both the person with the communication impairment and their environment, we take the next step in the right direction together.

I followed my primary education in Nijmegen; at Hogeschool Arnhem Nijmegen and Radboud University. During my working life I have always continued to develop, because I enjoy learning. That is why I took courses with Australian Gayle Porter and American Susan Norwell, among others.

In recent years I have worked with great pleasure for, among others: Sint Maartenskliniek Nijmegen, Stichting de Driestroom, Siza (Dorp Group) and Stichting Milo - trailblazers in communication. As a self-employed person, I have carried out assignments for various larger organizations such as the Dutch Rett Syndrome Association, Revalidation Rijndam, Ons Tweede Thuis, Amaranth, Us Dream Leeuwarden, etc.
